Dumpster Rental in Lexington, SC
Lexington is the seat of Lexington County and a town in its own right — a separate jurisdiction from Columbia, with its own government and its own right-of-way rules.
Which rules apply
Three different authorities can be involved depending on exactly where the container goes:
- Inside Lexington town limits, in the street — the Town of Lexington governs its right-of-way.
- Unincorporated Lexington County — county rules apply instead.
- A state-maintained road — SCDOT encroachment permit, on top of whichever local authority applies. US 1 and US 378 through this area are the obvious candidates.
What does not apply here is the City of Columbia encroachment permit. Lexington is not Columbia, and the Columbia process has no bearing on a Lexington street.
And as everywhere: private property placement needs no permit at all.
Lexington properties
Lexington has grown quickly, and most of the housing is newer subdivision development — generally wide driveways, clear approaches and no canopy problem. Placement here is usually the easy case. A 20 or 30 yard fits comfortably on most driveways.
The constraint in Lexington is rarely physical. It is the HOA. Many of the newer neighborhoods have active associations with specific rules about container size, placement and duration, and some require notice before one arrives. Check your covenants before you book rather than after the container is sitting in the driveway.
An HOA cannot grant you a right-of-way permit, and a town permit does not override your HOA. If both apply, you need both.
Lake Murray properties
Toward the lake, access gets more variable — longer private drives, steeper grades, softer ground near the shore. Tell us what the approach looks like and we will tell you whether the truck can make it before we dispatch one.
